Jennifer Abrams
Ms. Jennifer Marie Abrams was born on July 26, 1969, to Ms. Mary Abrams Spencer. She is the proud mother of two children, Alesia and Shauntrel, and grandmother to Londyn, Emauri, and Ameer.
Ms. Jennifer was introduced to quilting at a young age by her mother, who learned the craft from her own mother, Dadie. Her early memories of quilting began with small tasks—threading needles and helping prepare quilts for the frame. One day, her mother invited her to try quilting herself, placing a threaded needle and her grandmother’s thimble in her hand and guiding her through the layers of a quilt known as Coat of Many Colors. Although her first stitches were far from perfect, the experience left a lasting impression and sparked a lifelong connection to the craft.
After returning home from college in 1992, Ms. Jennifer began working at the Freedom Quilting Bee alongside her mother, who served as head seamstress until the co-op’s closure. She later built a career with the Wilcox County Board of Education, where she worked as the Local School Accounts Payable and Federal Programs Fiscal Assistant until retiring in 2023.
Since her retirement, Ms. Jennifer has returned to quilting and once again enjoys the art that has connected generations of her family and community.
