Event Series: Guided Tour

Our Guided Tour at the Freedom Quilting Bee Legacy is an intimate, small-group experience led by our resident historian or a knowledgeable guide from the FQBL community. As you move through the museum together, you’ll explore the history of the Freedom Quilting Bee — a Black women-owned and operated quilt cooperative established during the Civil Rights Movement and built here in Alberta, Alabama. Women from Alberta and Gee’s Bend worked side by side to create economic opportunity and lasting change.

You’ll hear how the women of ‘the Bee’ built economic power and played a vital role in the struggles for Civil Rights, Voting Rights, and Women’s Rights.

The tour includes a 30-minute documentary film that deepens the story of ‘the Bee’ and the women who built it. There is space to ask questions, reflect, and connect. Afterward, guests are invited to visit the gift shop, where you can support today’s makers and carry a piece of this living legacy home.
