DESCRIPTION:Our Guided Tour at the Freedom Quilting Bee Legacy is an intimate\, small-group experience led by our resident historian or a knowledgeable guide from the FQBL community. As you move through the museum together\, you’ll explore the history of the Freedom Quilting Bee — a Black women-owned and operated quilt cooperative established during the Civil Rights Movement and built here in Alberta\, Alabama. Women from Alberta and Gee’s Bend worked side by side to create economic opportunity and lasting change. \nYou’ll hear how the women of ‘the Bee’ built economic power and played a vital role in the struggles for Civil Rights\, Voting Rights\, and Women’s Rights. \nThe tour includes a 30-minute documentary film that deepens the story of ‘the Bee’ and the women who built it. There is space to ask questions\, reflect\, and connect. Afterward\, guests are invited to visit the gift shop\, where you can support today’s makers and carry a piece of this living legacy home.

In this intimate\, hands-on experience\, you’ll learn to design and piece a quilt top in the celebrated Gee’s Bend tradition\, complete your own quilt block\, and spend meaningful time with the women carrying this living legacy forward. \nThe workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from quiltmakers whose work continues to shape one of the most renowned quilting traditions in the world! \nJennifer Abrams will lead this month’s workshop. \nLunch and all materials are included. Space is limited\, and every registration directly supports the quilters and their work.
